Inspiration for optimizing college visits.

They Won’t Remember the Script

“People will forget what you said, forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
- Maya Angelou

Campus tours are filled with information.

Majors. Rankings. Housing options. Internship stats. Study abroad numbers.

And yes...those things matter.

But years from now, a student likely won’t remember the exact number of clubs on campus. They won’t remember the square footage of the freshman dorms. They won’t remember the percentage of students who study abroad.

They will remember how they felt walking beside you.

Did they feel welcomed?
Did they feel seen?
Did they feel like they could belong here?

I know this because I lived it.

When I was touring colleges, I met a student tour guide who didn’t just recite facts, he asked about me. He listened. He noticed what I cared about. And somewhere between the student union and the admissions office, I felt something shift.

I felt known.

That feeling stayed with me long after the tour ended. It shaped my decision. It shaped my college experience. In many ways, it shaped my life.

Student ambassadors: you are not just delivering information.
You are shaping emotional memory.

You are not just walking backward across campus.
You are helping someone imagine their future.

Long after the facts fade, the feeling remains.

Lead with that.
